Ex-NHL union head named to run College Hockey Inc.

BOSTON (AP)—The former director of the NHL Players’ Association has beenchosen to run a new initiative aimed at raising the profile of college hockey.

The Hockey Commissioners Association announced Tuesday night that Paul Kellyhas been hired to run College Hockey Inc., the new marketing arm of NCAADivision I men’s hockey. It will be based in Newton, Mass.

The NHL players’ union voted to remove Kelly in August after a reviewproduced a list of issues that players had with his leadership.

Kelly had worked as a trial attorney and assistant U.S. attorney in Bostonbefore joining the NHLPA in 2007.

He is on the boards of directors of the Hockey Hall of Fame and USA Hockey.He is also an adviser to Hockey Canada and the International Ice HockeyFederation.
